Popular Destinations in Tuvalu
Funafuti
It is the largest island in the country and the capital of this island
nation. Funafuti is home to the only International airport in the country.
Funafuti and its other tiny islets boast most of the tourist attractions in
the country. The prime attraction of this place is the lagoon, which is an
18 kilometers long water body. Tourists can also enjoy diving in the water
at this beautiful lagoon.
Nanumanga
One of the atolls of Tuvalu, Nanumanga is an excellent place to visit both
for history lovers and nature buffs. Some caves were discovered here in
1986 when adventurers were scuba diving. In these caves, the remains of old
settlements of the island were found, including the signs of fire which was
lit on the rocks. Adventure buffs who are interested in scuba diving can
access these caves easily.
WWII Plane Wreckage Sites
During World War II, this country and others around it were used by Allied
forces for defense and counter attack purposes against rival armed forces
who occupied the nearby Kiribati Island. Today, signs of the world war can
be witnessed in forms of remains and leftovers of several war planes around
different islands or islets of the country. Tourists can visit these sites
if they are interested to know history. Also, worth visiting among these
sites is the bunker of Tepuka islet.
