Popular Destinations in Solomon Islands
Honiara
Honiara, the capital city of the Solomon Islands, is located on the island
of Guadalcanal. There are several attractions here that capture the
interests of tourists. These include - National Museum of Honiara, which is
home to WWII relics and cultural artifacts while traditional murals
embellish the conical National Parliament building. The Botanical Gardens
comprises an orchid house. American War Memorial features descriptions of
local battles fought throughout the Guadalcanal Campaign of WWII.
Constructed by Japanese veterans, the Solomons Peace Memorial Park honors
those who died in the battles. Located west of the city, Vilu War Museum
puts on display memorials and WWII aircraft. Bonegi Beach, located in
proximity to the park, is an excellent site for diving and snorkeling.
Guadalcanal
One of the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal is located in the South Pacific and
is famous for its WWII relics and dive sites like palm-fringed Bonegi
Beach. Volcanic Mount Popomanaseu, located on the island, is the Solomon
Islands’ highest peak. Located in the northwest, Visale Beach boasts green
hills backing the tree-fringed beach.
Gizo
Gizo, the capital of the Western Province in Solomon Islands, is the second
largest town in the country. Today, Gizo is a tourism hub with diving and
surfing being two of the popular activities here.
