Officially the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Northern Mariana Islands is an insular area and a commonwealth of the United States. It consists of 14 islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. These are the northernmost islands in the Mariana Archipelago except Guam, which is a separate US territory and the southernmost island of the chain. Northern Mariana Islands and Guam are the western-most territories of the United States. Capitol Hill is the administrative center of the territory. The southern islands of Northern Mariana Islands are made of limestone, with fringing coral reefs and level terraces. The northern islands boast active volcanoes including pagan, Agrihan, and Anatahan. Northern Mariana Island feature a rich past and its indigenous culture is very much alive till today. American Memorial Park

American Memorial Park is an attraction in Northern Mariana Islands which history buffs must not miss out while exploring the country. The main attraction of this Saipan national park is the monument that boasts the names of the 5,204 Marianas and American soldiers who were martyred during the WWII Marianas Campaign. American Memorial Park also boasts a peaceful beach, playground, scenic pathway, and a lot of green space for picnics.

Last Command Post

Last Command Post was the last Northern Mariana Islands command post of the Second World war Japanese Imperial Army, named as Banadero. This post features a bunker between two soaring cliffs known as Suicide and Banzai. Lots of Japanese and Korean residents threw themselves off these cliffs after the Japanese lost the final Battle of Saipan confrontation, rather than surrendering themselves to the Americans. Last Command Post is a limestone cave boasting a collection of vintage Japanese WWII cannons, tanks, and several other military relics.

As Nieves Latte Stone Quarry

Chamorro, the original residents of Northern Mariana Islands, constructed their homes and other significant buildings from distinctive latte stones. Nieves Latte Stone Quarry is one of the most remarkable surviving landmarks from this time period. It is a massive unfinished limestone quarry located near the Rota village of Sinapalo. It is not known why this grand project was suddenly forsaken, but some of these structures stand as high as 25 feet and their stones date back as far back as 845 AD.

Best Time to Visit Northern Mariana Islands
Weather-wise, the dry months from December to June are the best months to take Northern Mariana Islands flights. The tourists who are wishing to avoid crowds should refrain from visiting the territory during Japanese national holidays, many of which are celebrated during the dry season. This Japanese holiday time is known as Golden Week and falls between late April and early May. It is advisable to book tickets in advance to get cheap flights to Northern Mariana Islands as airfares tend to rise during peak season.
