Stanley also offers excellent shopping for woolens and leather goods. After exploration of the city, tourists can enjoy dining at one of the harbor side restaurants or cafes.

Volunteer Point

Volunteer Point, located about two hours of drive by sometimes bumpy road from Stanley, is an excellent place to enjoy some unforgettable wildlife watching. The major attraction here is the king penguins. About 1,200 breeding pairs live in this area. Some other native wildlife includes white bridled finches and steamer ducks, as well as sea lions. In order to make the most of a visit, tourists can check out one of the well-organized tours of Volunteer Point.

South Georgia Museum

Originally established as a whaling museum in 1991, the South Georgia Museum has since expanded to embrace the history of the island. The museum is in a 1916 whaling station manager's house constructed by whalers from Norway. South Georgia Museum includes captivating displays unfolding the discovery and exploration of the island, whaling, sealing, its natural history, and maritime history. The museum also organizes exhibits based on the Falklands War and the British military presence.
