Things to do in Mauritius
Beaches
Mauritius has a host of pristine beaches where can spend your days
lounging, surfing, kayaking or swimming. Tamarin is a black sand beach
which offers ideal conditions for surfing. La Cuvette Beach Grand Bay is a
small picturesque beach where visitors can avoid crowds. The conditions
here are favorable for yachting and sailing. Flic en Flac Beach is among
the longest and most charming beaches of the country. The coral reef and
lagoon nearby make it a tranquil place to visit during sunsets and snorkel.
Blue Penny Museum
The Blue Penny Museum is an art and history museum, it is also the first
venue to house vintage stamps Mauritius. The museum is located at the
Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis. Founded by the Mauritius Commercial Bank,
the museum opened its doors in 2001. The vast collection includes the rare
1847 Blue Penny and Red Penny stamps. The collection focusses on the
maritime explorations conducted in the Indian Ocean, overview of the 3
colonial periods and history of postal services in the country.
Eureka
Eureka is a Creole mansion built in the 1830s, it is located in Moka. The
elegant building is an outstanding example of tropical construction,
wherein the interior is kept cool in the hot weather. The extremely well
preserved former plantation house has beautifully landscaped gardens. The
Ravin waterfall is a mere 15-minute walk from the estate. Eureka is a
museum today, housing vintage furniture, and antique maps imported by the
French East India Company.
