Arecibo is a city on the northern coast of Puerto Rico. The city is located
on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, north of Ciales and Utuado, west of
Barceloneta and Florida, and east of Hatillo. San Juan, the capital city of
Puerto Rico, is about 80 kilometers from Arecibo. The city is also knowns
as El Diamante Del Norte (The Diamond of the North). One of the oldest
colonial towns in Puerto Rico, Arecibo is home to a lot of historical

Catedral de San Felipe Apostol
Cathedral de San Felipe Apostol is a Catholic cathedral and the seat of
Diocese of Arecibo. It is the second largest church after the Cathedral of
San Juan. The architecture of the church is worth admiring. The church
features Neoclassical ornamentation and Renaissance-style windows.
Arecibo Light
Also known as Los Morrillos Lighthouse, Arecibo Light is a historic
lighthouse in the city. The lighthouse is located on the top of a rocky
headland called Punta Morrillos. Arecibo Light is also home to a small
museum putting on display the history of the lighthouse, marine artifacts,
and the Spanish-American War.
Arecibo Observatory
Operated by University of Central Florida, Arecibo Observatory is a radio
telescope and the sole facility of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere
Center (NAIC). This observatory has appeared in many films and television
productions. Arecibo Observatory is listed in the American National
Register of Historic places.
