Gandan Monastery
The largest and most significant monastery in Mongolia, Gandan Monastery is one of the most interesting sites in Ulaanbaatar. The monastery was built in the mid of 19th century and it is the only monastery where Buddhist services continued to function even at the times of the communist past. The Migjid Janraisig Temple is a significant part of the monastery. This temple houses the spectacular new gilded statue of Migjid Janraisig, ornamented with jewels.
Natural History Museum
One of the oldest museums in the country, Natural History Museum was founded in 1924. Today, there are departments of Geology, Geography, Paleontology, and Flora and Fauna in the museum. The exhibits include the displays of stuffed and embalmed animals. Paleontology section is the most impressive section of the museum. In this section, there are petrified eggs and bones of numerous dinosaurs that lived in Gobi desert.
Museum of National History
Offering the richest collection on the history of Mongolia, Museum of National History occupies the building of the former Museum of Revolution. The museum covers the country's history from the Stone Age to the modern times. The exhibits include several arts and artifacts, military equipment, and arms of the warriors of Genghis Khan. Museum of National History also includes Traditional Mongolian customs and jewelers.
