The First Nations Cree community located alongside the eastern shore of the Oxford Lake in the Northern Manitoba is the Oxford House. The Oxford House was originally established in 1798 as fur trading post by Hudson’s Bay Company. People from nearby areas moved to the trading post and formed the Oxford House community. The community has schools, a university college, an airport, a motel, radio station, conservation office, and other facilities.
Till date there are four churches in the Oxford House community. These are - the Northern Evangelical, the Roman Catholic, the United, and the Full Gospel. The community also features a recreation committee, which keeps organizing games and tournaments like - volleyball, baseball, floor hockey, and ice-hockey from time to time. The committee also organizes summer and winter carnivals which can be enjoyed by people of all age groups.
