The "town in the middle of Norway", Mosjoen is the oldest in Helgeland. It is believed that city was already populated in 1600. Residing here during 1660 Svein Strandsitter and his family, is said to be the earliest inhabitants. Sjogata in the downtown is a great place to explore the history as there are uncounted 19th century buildings. It is also known as the pride of Mosjoen and is amongst the most picturesque places within northern Norway. Historical Walk - Sjogata
To learn and explore the history of Mosjoen one must walk-through the streets of Sjogata. Here are well preserved 19th century buildings keeping alive the history of the city. Located here are Kulturverkstedet (the Culture Workshop and a multipurpose building) and Jakobsenbrygga (a museum). In the museum is a three storeyed building which is known for organizing range of themed exhibitions and other events. Do not miss the lunchtime concerts by local musicians in Galleriet held on every Friday.
Dolstad Church
Dedicated to St. Michael, Dolstad Church is a parish church in the outskirts of the town. This red octagonal building was designed in the year 1735 by Nils Pedersen Bech. It is the oldest cruciform church in the region and is still in use; thus prohibiting any guided tour.
Marsora
Take a walk or ride a bike to Marsora to appreciate the beauty of Sjogata from the other end. This route is famous amongst hikers, as the it runs along the foothills of Oyfjellet. Also one gets the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking views of Vefsna River from here.
