Cheap Kythira Vacation Packages

The fabled home of Aphrodite (the Greek goddess of love), Kythira is an island in Greece lying opposite the southeastern tip of the Peloponnese peninsula. Unlike most Greek Islands that have a staid configuration of overcrowded beaches and decaying monuments, Kythira has a rocky terrain that is exquisitely chiseled by a consistent maze of gorges and valleys that lead to traditional watermills, waterfalls, ponds, an islet and a beautiful cave with blue luminescent waters. Over the centuries, it has also developed a noble reputation for its Thyme honey and classical Mediterranean cuisines, the latter being an eclectic mix of Greek and Italian culinary delicacies.

Places of Interest in Kythira
Venetian Castle
Built during 12th and 16th century, the ‘Eye of Crete’ or Venetian Castle used to provide an extensive, simultaneous view of the three seas here (the Ionian, the Aegean and the Cretan) to soldiers atop a rocky cliff. This historic castle is a metaphorical mix of history and beauty and you would be well served with some old churches, monuments and a gallery about the Venetian era here.

Kapsali Beach
Kapsali Beach is another five star attraction in Kythira. This beach is located alongside the beautiful village of Kapsali and is dotted with a number of restaurants and cafes amidst a stunning mountainous backdrop. You should also take time to see an egg-shaped islet here, the Avgo and swim in a cave here.

Cave of Agia Sofia
The Cave of Agia Sofia has is quite chilly from the inside and thus has some remarkable ice formations. It has an open-roof church dedicated to Saint Sofia, though three of her daughters and some other holy icons also find a polite mention alongside. Common folklore assumes that her dead body was found here and thus a chapel was built in her honor in 1875.
