Cheap Deer Lake Vacation Packages
Deer Lake is a town in the western part of the island of Newfoundland, Canada. The city is a homonym for a lake near Humber River that derived its name from the European settlers. The city was named by early settlers after regularly sighting Woodland Caribou, an animal that looks similar to deer. As for the beach, it is a typical golden brown sandy one with fire pits for personal use. The best part is that the water here is shallow (about ten inches) for first fifty yards off the shore and thus you can bring along your kids here too!
Places of Interest in Deer Lake
Newfoundland Insectarium
A must watch for kids and grown-ups alike. It has a number of insects, bees, bugs, spiders and crabs in its repertoire, and the best of the lot is a collection of butterflies from all four corners of the world. There is also a separate glass beehive that is the cause of much bewilderment in young kids. You can even let bugs crawl over and butterflies to sit over you. If you’re lucky, you could even find the monarch butterflies laying eggs or a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly!
Sir Richards Squires Memorial Provincial Park
Sir Richard Squires Memorial Park is named in honor of Sir Richard Squires, the Prime Minister of Newfoundland during the early nineteenth century. This memorial park has a wide range of evergreen trees, most particular of them are fir and spruce. You will also find here the floral emblem of Newfoundland, the Pitcher Plant. Though the park is home to some of the most remarkable animals like snowshoe hare, red squirrels, beavers, moose and meadow voles, it is the Atlantic salmon that usually takes the limelight. Other park activities that you may like are camping, hiking, fishing and canoeing.
