TCI for short, the Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory including the larger Caicos Islands and smaller Turks Islands. These are the two groups of tropical islands located in Lucayan Archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean and northern West Indies. Tourism is the primary industry of the country. The Turks and Caicos Islands are located northeast of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the other Antiles archipelago islands, and southeast of Mayaguana in the Bahamas island chain. The Turks and Caicos Islands, located off the south-eastern tip of the Bahamas, include one of the largest coral reef systems in the world. This reef system earns the islands a status of a premier dive destination. Beautiful white-sand beaches border this necklace of around 40 islands, where nature trails, water sports, underground caves, stunning seascapes, and iguana reserves are the main attractions. Fishing is also a major activity offered in the country. From January through April, tourists can spot humpback whales on their yearly migration around these intact and pristine islands. Only eight islands of the country are inhabited. The largest of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Middle Caicos boasts the most stunning coastline in the country, with limestone cliffs dipping to turquoise bays.
