Victoria
Capital of Seychelles, Victoria is situated on the largest island in the
Seychelles, Mahe Island. Victoria was founded by a French settler in the 18th century. A number of historic landmarks and remains of the
European era line the streets of Victoria, namely, Victoria Clocktower,
Bicentennial Monument, and Bel Air Cemetery. The country’s remarkable
history is preserved and showcased in its impressive museums. The National
Museum of History has exhibits on a wide range of subjects, from zoology to
the intriguing history of Seychellois people. The Seychelles Natural
History Museum is dedicated to sharing the country's impressive heritage
with exhibits on flora, fauna, and geology of the various islands.
Beau Vallon
Beau Vallon is home to arguably the most popular beach on
the island, Beau Vallon Beach. Due to its crystal-clear waters and coral
reefs, the beach is renowned for being a base for snorkelling and diving.
Visitors can also indulge in an array of water sports. The Beau Vallon is
lined with hotels, small and upscale suiting varied preferences. Visitors
will find two major hotels and several eateries right on the beach itself.
Praslin
Praslin island is home to some of the nation’s best beaches. Anse
Volbert-Cote D’Or, the main beach on the island faces the offshore Chauve
Souris islet. To learn more about Praslin’s culture and farming traditions,
visitors can head over to the Praslin Museum. The island’s jungle-covered
interior is home to the Praslin National Park, which comprises the Vallee
de Mai Nature Reserve. This breath-taking palm forest is believed to be the
biblical Garden of Eden by some. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is indeed
among the botanical wonders of the world with its abundant plants and
wildlife. The Praslin Island is a gateway to neighboring Curieuse Marine
National Park, a nature reserve with sea turtle nesting sites, coral reefs,
and a breeding center for tortoises.
