Skopje
The capital and the largest city of the Republic of Macedonia, Skopje is
the academic, political, economic, and cultural hub of the country. It is a
modern city and continues to be a focus for economic developments,
refurbishments, and constructions. The city is an attractive tourist
destination with its fortress, historical and cultural monuments, sport
halls, archeological sites, health spa in the eastern part of the country,
and caves in the canyon of the Tresca River and Lake Matka. Skopje is
internationally famed for being the birthplace of Mother Teresa. Some of
the major tourist attractions in Skopje include Aqueduct, Cifte Amam, and
Daut Pasha's Amam.
Cerje
An excellent place to visit for history buffs, Cerje is a renowned
archeological site from the Early Stone Age. The site is surrounded by
historic relics, various forts remains, and ancient sculptures. Cerje is a
popular daytrip destination from Skopje. While on the trip to Cerje,
tourists must explore the figurine known as Adam from Govrlevo, one of the
earliest prehistoric male figurines in the world.
Marko’s Castle
Heavily fortified with 40 towers, Marko’s Castle is an ancient early
Byzantine Fortress. This castle was the site of the medieval town of
Crence. Marko’s Castle is located around 90 miles from Skopje. At the
castle, tourists can admire its brilliant architectural and well-designed
carvings.
