Platinum is a city in Bethel Census Area in Alaska, United States. It is known as Arviiq in Central Alaskan Yup'ik language. It was named thus after noble metal Platinum was discovered here in 1927. During the Second World War, the city was keenly contested between the Alaska Territorial Guard and Imperial Japanese Forces because it was the only source of this coveted metal in Western Hemisphere.
It is located at 59°0?25?N 161°48?55?W at an elevation of 13 feet. It follows Alaskan Time Zone (AKST/AKDT) and observes relevant daylight saving time.
