Maputo
The capital and largest city of Mozambique, Maputo is a beautiful port city
also known as the 'City of Acacias' due to the acacia trees commonly found
in the region. The city is encircled by Maputo Province and manufactures
pottery, cotton, shoes, furniture, and rubber. Maputo is well known for its
Mediterranean-style architecture, wild avenues, and waterside setting. It
is one of the most attractive capitals in Africa. The city features a wide
array of hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, sidewalk cafes, and has a
vibrant cultural scene. Some of the major tourist attractions in Mozambique
include natural History Museum, Train Station, and Central Market.
Bazaruto Island
Bazaruto Island is located off the coast of southern Mozambique in Bazaruto
National Park. Heaps of resorts dot the island’s beautiful white beaches.
The island is famous for marine life like dugong and turtles. Traditional
dhow boats are available for tourists to go to nearby islands of Santa
Carolina and Benguerra.
Quirimbas Islands
Quirimbas Archipelago is located just off the northern coast of Mozambique
in the Indian Ocean. Many of the islands of this archipelago are part of
Quirimbas National Park, famous for coral reefs and waters inhabited by
whales, dolphins, and dugongs. Medjumbe, Matemo, and Vamizi islands of this
archipelago boast long beaches and dive sites. History buffs are
recommended to visit Mangrove-covered Ibo Island boasting colonial-era
ruins.
