Cheap Flights to Delta Junction (DJN)

A city in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area in the US state of Alaska, Delta Junction is located close to the south of the confluence of the Delta River with the Tanana River. The city has had several identities over the years including farming community, gold rush town, military outpost, and Bison City. Delta Junction is an official end of the Alaska Highway. At this city, the famed Alaska Highway joins the Richardson Highway to complete the route to Fairbanks. This intersection is known as "the Triangle" and is marked by a colossal white milepost for Mile 1422 of the Alaska Highway. The Deltana Fair is held in Delta Junction in the month of August. This fair includes craft, livestock, and garden exhibits along with the usual fair staples of food vendors, tractor pulls, and carnival rides.

The most famous tourist attraction in Delta Junction, Big Delta State Historical Park offers visitors take a walk through the past. The centerpiece of the park is the Rika's Roadhouse. This house served tourists on the historic Valdez to Fairbanks trail from 1913 to 1947. Rika's Roadhouse was a center of activity for activity for local hunters, freighters, gold traders. Washington Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS) station is also located in this historical park. This station was built by US Signal Corps to speed up the communication between interior Alaska to Washington D.C.

Located east of Delta Junction, Alaska Homestead & Historical Museum is the site of an early homestead farm and a wide assortment of early farming equipment. Tour to this museum includes exploring a homestead log house, gardens and green house, viewing livestock, visiting the barns, corrals and buildings, witnessing an authentic Alaska freight dog team, and watching an authentic operating sawmill that produces all the lumber used on the homestead. Visitors in Alaska Homestead & Historical Museum can also view an extensive collection of historical farming and mining equipment.

Relocated across from the visitor center, Sullivan Roadhouse was originally built in 1905. One of the last remaining original roadhouses from the Valdez to Fairbanks Trail, Sullivan Roadhouse is an excellent museum boasting interesting Interior pioneer artifacts. The entry in the museum is free of cost.
