Brazzaville
Capital of Republic of the Congo, Brazzaville is situated on the Congo
River, right opposite Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the
Congo. The pleasantly laid-back capital is the best place for visitors to
experience warm Congolese culture. Brazzaville is home to a sizeable Muslim
population. Brazzaville is lined with several landmarks such as the Case de
Gaulle, Zoological Park, Sacre-Coeur Cathedral, Town Hall, and City
Amusement Park. The local market, Marche Total, is full of vendors selling
fresh produce, fish, meat, and household goods. Visitors can take a
leisurely walk along the river where they will find a number of chic cafes,
eateries and bars. For sweeping views of the city and Congo River, visitors
must head to the cylindrical Nabemba Tower.
Pointe Noire
The second largest city in the Republic of the Congo, Pointe Noire is a
major port city. Located on a headland between the Atlantic Ocean and
Pointe-Noire Bay, the city is known for French colonial architecture and
its pristine beaches. Pointe Noire is lined with several beach resorts. The
city is the major commercial and oil industry hub of Congo. The region
offers hiking, trekking, and camping opportunities. In close proximity,
nature lovers can explore the rainforest which surrounds the striking red
cliffs of the Diosso Gorge. The Conkouati-Douli National Park is located
north of Pointe Noire and features diverse terrain such as mangroves,
lagoons, and savanna. The national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and
home to abundant wildlife including elephant, leopards, sitatunga,
Chimpanzees, buffalo, gorillas, bushpigs, and mandrill.
Oyo
Located in the Cuvette Region, Oyo is a port city. Situated on the eastern
banks of the Alima River, the city is roughly 400 km from Brazzaville.
Connected to the capital, Brazzaville, by a paved road, Oyo is 5 kms from
Edou city. While here, visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the banks
and relax at the picturesque riverfront. A sleepy town, Oyo is known for
being the residence of the President and his family. The Alima Palace,
located on the edge of the banks of the river, is well worth visiting.
