Comoro Islands
Comoro Islands or Comoros form a group of volcanic islands off the
south-east coast of Africa. The archipelago is situated to the east of
Mozambique and north-west of Madagascar. The island of Banc du Geyser and
the Glorioso Islands are also the part of the archipelago. Comoro Islands
are politically separated out between Union of the Comoros and two
territories of France - the region of Mayotte and the Glorioso Islands,
which is one of the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean. The archipelago
is an excellent place to visit for its spick-and-span beaches and lovely
corals.
Moroni
Moroni is the capital city of the Comoro Island. The city is located on the
island of Grande Comore, which is surrounded by beaches and the active
Mount Karthala Volcano. The carved doors and the colonnaded Old Friday
Mosque, located around the port in Moroni, recall the city’s Arab heritage.
An excellent place to visit for history lovers, the National Museum of the
Comoros boasts exhibits related to the nation’s natural and cultural
history.
Grande Comore
Grande Comore is an island located in the Indian Ocean. It is the largest
island in the country. The island comprises two shield volcanoes, with
Mount Karthala being Comoros’ highest point at an elevation of 2,361 meters
above sea level.
