Kuwait Towers
Kuwait Towers are located in Kuwait City and they stand as the country’s unofficial symbol because they find a consistent presence on everything except on the national flag. They were designed by Swedes, built by Yugoslavs and opened for Kuwaitis in 1979. These iconic towers are hallmarked by large spheres covered with a strange dotted pattern made of differently colored circular plates. The first of these towers is 583 feet high and hosts the iconic Viewing Sphere with a rotating viewing platform. The second tower that stands at 478 feet is used for storing water and the third tower is used to light up the other two at night.
The Grand Mosque
Located in Kuwait City, the Grand Mosque is the official and largest mosque in Kuwait. Spread across 480000 square feet, it mainly consists of main prayer hall and is hallmarked by its ornate teakwood doors and 144 windows. This iconic mosque’s construction had started in 1979 and completed on the festival of Eid in 1986. The Grand Mosque’s dome has a diameter of 85 feet and a height of 141 feet. It is decorated with 99 names of Prophet Mohammed. The mosque can accommodate up to 10000 men in the main prayer hall and it also has a separate hall where up to 950 women can offer prayers.
Liberation Tower
The Liberation Tower is a 372-meter high telecommunications tower in Kuwait City, Kuwait. It ranks as the second-tallest structure in the country after Al Hamra Firdous Tower. The construction of this tower had started before the Iraq-Kuwait War of 1990 and was completed 1993. The tower was badly damaged by Iraqi forces during the war and after the Iraqi aggressors were beaten back, this tower was renamed ‘Liberation Tower’ to herald a hard-fought Kuwaiti victory. The Liberation Tower consists of a revolving mezzanine and a section covered in anodized aluminum to withstand the extreme temperatures.
Green Island
Opened in 1988, the Green Island is the first artificial island in the Persian Gulf region. It is located off the coast of Kuwait City's promenade. It is hallmarked by thousands of colored shrubs and trees, and sands and rocks brought in from other countries. Green Island is full of entertainment features including amphitheatre with seating capacity for at least 700 people and games for children and adults alike. The island also has a swimming pool on its eastern side. Also of note here are a few restaurants that serve traditional and European dishes to the visitors.
