The castle was built by Norman invaders to defend the city from Welsh invaders and was built as a sum of three fortresses rolled into one. The castle is noted for its 150 feet high Clock Tower (built in 1868), the Arab Room in the Herbert Tower, and a Moorish style jelly mould ceiling. These two masterpieces were created by the eminent 19th century architect and designer- William Burge. Cardiff Castle is also noted for its State Apartments, the Chaucer Room, and gardens.
