Pictograph Cave

Pictograph Cave refers to a group of three caves that were excavated in 1937. They contain a large number of artifacts, out of which more than 30000 artifacts have been identified. These caves derive their names from a large number of cave paintings portraying animals, warriors and weapons painted by local Native Americans centuries ago. The oldest painting here is 2100 year old.

It is hallmarked by a 150-feet tall pillar that stands royally above the Yellowstone River and features numerous examples of Native American engravings. Also of note is an engraving of a signature reading William Clark, dated 25 July 1806.
