Unirii Square
One of the most beautiful and big baroque squares in Europe, Unirii Square is replete of impressive buildings built in the 18th and 19th centuries, such as the Baroque Palace, Serbian Vicariage and Orthodox Church, Catholic Dome, Lenau High School, and Canonics Houses. There is the Holy Trinity Monument in the middle of the square and close by a well with drinking water.
Libertatii Square
Undoubtedly the oldest of the Timisoara squares, Libertatii Square is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Timisoara. The location of Libertatii Square is also the site of the original center from which Timisoara’s evolution was commenced. This square has a beautiful aspect with a number of fine baroque buildings and monuments like the Former Town Hall, St. Mary and St. Nepomuk Monument, and the Military Casino.
Victoriei Square
A wonderful place to visit for history lovers and spiritual travelers, Victoriei Square was formed at the start of the 20th century on the grounds of a former fortress. A majority of the palaces in Victoriei Square were constructed in the style of 1900s architecture. The northern and southern sides are replete of the spectacular buildings of the Culture Palace and Metropolitan Orthodox Cathedral, while the central area of the square is dominated by the verdant area with stunning floral arrangements.
Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral
One of the symbol buildings of the city, Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral was erected between 1936 and 1946. The structural design of the cathedral blends old Romanian Moldavian architecture elements. The monument has 11 towers covered in enameled bricks and an altitude of 83 meters. This cathedral is one of the biggest in the country. The basement of the cathedral boasts a small museum displaying the old religious art collection of the Archbishopric of Timisoara.
