Places of Interest in Rodez
Rodez Cathedral
Originally located at the site of a demolished sixth century cathedral, the Cathedral of Rodez is a remarkable mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles from 13th century to 17th century. Made of pink sandstone, this cathedral has an eighty seven meters tall bell tower and is topped by a lantern carrying the statue of the Virgin with a choir of four angels.
Episcopal Palace
A little like Rodez Cathedral, Episcopal Palace too was made on a demolished, eponymous structure. This historical monument was built in the preferred architectural style of Louis XIII. It is a superlative combination of history and grandeur, and is a must visit if you are coming to Rodez.
Saint-Amans Church
Rodez is a historical town and thus monuments here bear an impression of all the times they have been standing in. The Church of Saint Amans was built in the 12th century, was later destroyed and then completely rebuilt in eighteenth century. Consequently, it bears two different and distinct styles of architecture- the exterior is remarkably Baroque and the interior is Romanesque. The dome, tapestries and a five hundred year old statue of the Trinity together form an irresistible trio of charming beauty that simply can’t be missed.
