Places of Interest in Nantucket
Nantucket Whaling Museum
Nantucket was known as the ‘Whaling Capital of the World’ in its heydays and it’s only apt that the most stellar attraction here is about whales. The Nantucket Whaling Museum is the result of upgradation and transformation of a candle factory of 1847 AD to make way for ample exhibition space, a rooftop observation deck overlooking Nantucket harbor and a 46 feet long skeleton of sperm whale. Other must see attractions here include 1849 Fresnel Lens of Sankaty Head Lighthouse and other pre-historical artifacts.
The Black History Trail
The Black Heritage Trail is a group of ten historical sites related to the settlements of African Americans on Nantucket since nineteenth century. It is divided into two segments, Downtown and New Guinea to yield a holistic experience and extensive insight into the lives of people living back then. Some of the main parts of this trail are Dreamland Theatre, Unitarian Church, Anna Gardener’s House and Five Corners.
Maria Mitchell Aquarium
The Maria Mitchell Association Aquarium (MMA Aquarium) or the Nantucket Aquarium, is the prime attraction in Nantucket, Massachusetts. It is the island's only marine science center and it promotes scientific education and research in service to the legacy of Maria Mitchell (1818-1889 AD), America's first female astronomer and a native of the town.
