Appomattox Co. Historical Museum
Located in the Court House Square, Appomattox Co. Historical Museum was once a jail started in 1895 and completed in 1897. The present structure is a museum that boasts a turn-of-the-city one-room school, a jail cell, a doctor's office, and a plethora of artifacts and excellent memorabilia of the past. Appomattox Co. Historical Museum remains open May through October.
Academy Center of the Arts
Built in 1905, Academy Center of the Arts is a the centerpiece of regional visual and performing art center. The building of the center features a studio theater and a historic center. The historic center is undergoing renovation. Theater in the center displays an assortment of performances incorporating professional road shows, jazz, magic shows, opera, and several competitions.
Amherst County Museum & Historical Society
Aiming to preserve the history of Amherst, Amherst County Museum & Historical Society is located about twenty miles north of Lynchburg. The museum is housed in a 1907 Georgian home and maintains two rooms of changing exhibits on the history of Amherst. Admission in the museum is free of cost.
