Astronaut Ellison S. Onizuka Space Center
It was neither a bird nor a plane, nor even Superman. It was NASA space shuttle called Challenger (1986) that saw a debilitating and tragic end. Seven crew members gave up their lives and their dreams to fly to the moon as a price for the mishap - and one of them was Ellison S Onizuka. He was Hawaii’s first astronaut and was on his way to his maiden spacewalk in the ill-fated space shuttle. Astronaut Ellison S Onizuka Space Center Space is made in his fond memory. The space facility is a 50-foot high, 4,000 square foot, triangular-shaped building that has a space travel simulator, memorabilia and Onizuka’s personal belongings.

Hulihe'e Palace
Those were the royal days of Kailua-Kona, the days when the monarchy used to decide the order of the day. Built in 1838 AD, Hulihe’s Palace was the summer vacation home for the royal family that has now been turned into a museum. It must be visited for its exceptional woodwork and also has a collection of various memorabilia relating to it past. Entry to this palace costs ten dollars for adults and one dollar for children.

H.N. Greenwell Store Museum
HN Greenwell Store Museum is an embodiment of 19th century Hawaii that showcases the city’s agricultural history. It was built in 1875 AD and is now housed in one of oldest buildings in Kona. This iconic monument had also served other purposes at the time of its regal ownership - it was a post office, house, storehouse, place for keeping sheep and cows etc.
