The refuge boasts seven major rivers and around 100 streams. The refuge has six native species of mammals: Kodiak brown bear, river otter, tundra vole, little brown bat, red fox, and ermine. Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge is also home to around 250 avifauna species.

Kodiak Military History Museum
An excellent place to learn about the history of the Army and Navy on Kodiak Island and the Harbor Defenses front, Kodiak Military History Museum is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Kodiak. The museum is located inside a bunker that is a part of a restoration effort started in 1980s. This bunker is also a great spot for photographers to get sunrise photos.
