This city is also known as the 'Flagship City' owing to its status as the home port of Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship Niagara. Because of the sparkling Erie Lake, the city has also been called the "Gem City". Erie features plethora of cultural and entertainment attractions, which includes a regional art museum and amusement parks.

Presque Isle
Presque Isle is a sand spit that projects out into Lake Erie from the western part of downtown in Erie. This beautiful area is a state park, and is one of the renowned recreational areas in the city. It has plethora of hiking trails, beaches, fishing and bird-watching options. One can rent a boat or a kayak here.
Waldameer Water World
Located on the mainland, near the entrance to Presque Isle, Waldameer Water World is an amusement park, which began in 1900 and since has stretched to incorporate a number of thrill rides, roller coasters, and a water park. Admission and parking at the park are free of cost. However, visitors have to pay for the rides.
Erie Maritime Museum and the Flagship 'Niagara'
The waterfront Erie Maritime Museum boasts exhibits on the history of Lake Erie from the War of 1812 to the current day. Flagship "Niagara" is one of the biggest draws of the museum. It is a ship, which is a replica of a warship used in 1812. Though the museum is the home of this ship, Flagship ‘Niagara’ sails around Lake Erie as a traveling exhibit.
Erie Art Museum
The Erie Art Museum was initially a community-based art group that came into existence in the late 19th century. This group, in due course, found a permanent home in one of the mansions in Erie and expanded to become the Erie Art Museum. At present, Erie Art Museum offers exhibits of local art, art classes, live musical performances, international traveling exhibitions, and a pottery studio. The museum is also a Folk Art Center and supports traditional artists of the region.
