This American Civil War-era cannon was built on a 17th century Italian concept that illustrated a way wherein a cannon could be used to shoot twin cannonballs that were linked through a chain. Due to some erroneous calculation by the manufacturer, this iconic canon became entirely useless for strategic purposes and was never used in any war.

The Tree That Owns Itself is a white oak tree in Athens that assumes legal ownership of itself and of all land in the radius of eight feet from its base. This tree is called the Jackson Oak and is located at the corner of South Finley and Dearing Streets in Athens, Georgia. The present tree stands in the place of the original tree that had fallen in 1942 and was grown from one of the acorns of the original tree.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a 313-acre green preserve that includes 11 botanical and horticultural collections. Its Native Flora Garden is home to more than 300 plant species of ferns, trilliums, bloodroot, and lady slipper orchids. Other notable parts of the garden include the Main Conservatory, the Heritage Garden and the collections of the International Garden.
