Yayoi Kusama Pop-up at Selfridges

This blog post was updated on November 2, 2018.

Apparently, a major retrospective spanning over 50 years of work by Yayoi Kusama at Tate Modern earlier this year was not enough to fill London’s appetite for this 83-year-old and increasingly more influential Japanese artist. Not only can her art and designs still be viewed at the lavish Louis Vuitton flagship store on London’s über fashionable Bond Street, but now the results of her team-up with Louis Vuitton are on view (and ready for your purchase) at a recently opened pop-up shop located inside the ever on trend Selfridges department store.
The Yayoi Kusama Louis Vuitton collection is a collaboration between Kusama and LV designer, Marc Jacobs, a great admirer of Kusama’s vision. The result? A range of handbags, ready-to-wear, travel bags, shoes and accessories featuring the artist’s iconic bright, repetitive patterns. For those unfamiliar with her work, think: polka dots, lots and lots of polka dots. And the LV collection stays true to her spirit.

Now, Selfridges London extends LV’s invitation for shoppers to “cover yourself in dots” by launching its largest store collaboration to date and welcoming the Yayoi Kusama Louis Vuitton collection into its legendary window displays along with a dedicated concept store. Yes, it’s a Kusama-Jacobs-Vuitton-Selfridges mash up that’s sure to have fashionistas rubbing elbows with more arty types eager for a look at what decades of success and the backing of a major luxury brand looks like.

Selfridges London is the only place in the UK to house the exclusive “second drop” of the Kusama Monogram collection after LV’s initial in-house offerings. And the world famous department store is marking the occasion with an unprecedented 24 window design by Yayoi Kusama. Based on Love Forever, a poem written by the artist, the window displays are “nothing short of a polka dot feast for the eyes.”
The polka dot celebration continues inside Selfridges, where Kusama and Louis Vuitton have transformed the ever-changing concept store with her signature giant pumpkins, setting the scene for a showcase of the collection.
The Yayoi Kusama Louis Vuitton Concept Store is open now and runs until October 19, 2012 at Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, W1A 1AB. Nearest Tube station is Bond Street.

The Louis Vuitton London flagship is located at 17/20 New Bond Street, W1S 2RB.
