Washington D.C.’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival will be tinged with sadness this year as visitors reflect on the devastation in Japan.
Many of the trees celebrated in the festival were donated by Japan 98 years ago.
However, D.C. is determined to return the generosity; this year’s festival will be highlighted by a “Stand with Japan” walk, with all proceeds going to Japanese relief efforts.
The festival kicks off on March 26 with peak blossoms expected just as the calendar flips to April.
