Virgin Atlantic Employees Reveal Strangest Check-In Requests

This blog post was updated on October 31, 2018.

A new survey of Virgin Atlantic employees reveals some truly bizarre requests from passengers when it comes to checked items on flights.

Just what kind of items have passengers tried to bring with them? Oh, everything from old bathtubs to bags of sand to entire car engines.

Strange “pets” like giant tarantulas and even dead cows have also been requested as checked cargo, according to airline employees.

“Our check-in staff see thousands of passengers on a daily basis but every now and then, a passenger will arrive at check-in with something you would never expect,” said Greg Dawson, Virgin Atlantic’s Director of Corporate Communications.

The airline released a similar survey in February which highlighted some of the strangest in-flight questions from passengers. “Can you turn the engines down, they’re too noisy!” claimed the top spot on that list.
