Craving a beach break in 2016? Here’s a look at our top 10 spots to consider for fun in the sun by the sea!
1.) Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is an easy answer to deciding on the ideal European getaway. Whether you’re into art, food, luxury, street life, shopping, or history—or if you’re just on a blowout budget or counting your euros, the Catalan capital is sure to delight!
And guess what? Barcelona’s got its own beach!
So you can do all the big city culture stuff but still start the day, and end it, with your toes in the sand. And if that’s not enough, the city makes a great base for exploring the nearby Costa Brava with its miles and miles of unspoiled beaches.
2.) Golden Isles, Georgia
Georgia’s 100-mile coastline stretches between the bounds of the South Carolina/Florida borders, and boasts a group of gorgeous barrier islands clustered around the historic port city of Brunswick.
Known as the Golden Isles and including St Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and Little St Simons Island, the islands are excellent destinations for getting away from it all with pristine beaches and wilderness areas, a rich legacy in colonial maritime history, and a laidback approach to life bolstered with plenty of Southern hospitality.
3.) Hawaii
Big surf or ankle deep tide pools? Total isolation or glitz and glamour? Roughing it in the wild, or living it up at a five star resort? There’s a beach for all of that – and it’s in Hawaii.
For an epic vacation in paradise it’s hard to beat the Hawaiian Islands with its world class beaches and vast variety of dramatic coastline!
4.) Palm Beaches, Florida
Stretching nearly 50 miles along the Atlantic from Boca Raton to Jupiter, Florida’s Palm Beaches are a collection of 38 towns and cities offering seaside breaks for all tastes.
5.) Pensacola, Florida
Pensacola on the panhandle of Gulf Coast Florida is a great base for a beach vacation replete with historical sites, amazing restaurants and loads of family friendly attractions and activities.
6.) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Ipanema Beach and the rest of Rio are great to visit anytime, but this year should be an especially fun and sporty time to visit this beauteous Brazilian city by the sea as it gets set to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
7.) Salento, Italy
For a taste of rustic Italy at its very best with plenty of rich history, beautiful beaches, amazing food and year round sunshine, few destinations can match this quiet corner of the Mediterranean located in the region of Puglia, at the very bottom of the country’s so called boot heel.
8.) San Diego, California
Perfect weather! Fish tacos! Friendly folks! San Diego is a sun lover’s dream come true.
9.) Setubal, Portugal
To the south of Lisbon, Portugal’s Setubal coast is a low key and oft overlooked setting, mixing opportunities to experience vast expanses of undeveloped shore, Old World charm, quaint fishing villages and lots of history.
10.) Skeleton Coast, Namibia
If you don’t mind sharing the beach with thousands of seals and dozens of shipwrecks (and virtually nothing else), or taking a few hours to drive there through the desert (while spotting elephants, lions, and giraffes), then the rugged and remote Skeleton Coast of Namibia in southwest Africa should rank high on your list of dream destinations.
