If you’re a “junk hunter” like me, you know that there are plenty of unique treasures to be found at flea markets. From fox fur hats to antique gramophones, I’ve found my fare share of goodies over the years. Here are my three favorite flea markets to peruse in the Los Angeles area.
Melrose Trading Post
Fairfax High School: 7850 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046
Every Sunday from 9a.m.-5p.m.
$2 admission fee (goes to support Fairfax High School)
Located in the parking lot of Fairfax High School, the Melrose Trading Post attracts an eclectic array of vendors. If you’re searching for vintage records, clothing, house wares, or jewelry, you’ll find plenty of unique (and well-priced) items to tempt you here. After you’re done perusing the goods, head to one of the many nearby restaurants for a bite to eat.
Venice Antiques and Collectible Flea Market
Venice High School: 13000 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066
Second Saturday of every month from 8a.m.-4p.m.
Jewelry, trinket, coin, silver, leather (and the list goes on) collectors will love this monthly flea market. You can feel good about shopping here, too, since 100% of all vendor fees go to support the programs at Venice High School. The remaining dates for 2012 are October 13th, November 10th and December 8th. When you’re done adding to your collections, head to Abbot Kinney for a bite to eat in one of Venice’s many great restaurants.
Rose Bowl Flea Market
Rose Bowl Stadium, 1001 Rose Bowl Drive, Pasadena, CA, 91103
Second Sunday of every month
$8 admission fee (children under 12 enter for free)
Located in neighboring Pasadena, The Rose Bowl Flea Market is the “grand dame” of all Los Angeles-area flea markets. Featuring over 2,500 vendors, this monthly event draws between 15,000-20,000 shoppers. There are also food vendors to sustain you through your hunt. If you’re in the area on the 2nd Sunday of the month, I highly suggest checking it out. It’s an eclectic scene that’s fun for the whole family. Plus, you never know what treasures you might find.
