Just a few hours into the busiest travel day of the year, airports reported that things weren’t quite as hectic as they had anticipated.
The National Opt Out Day, which was supposed to cause mayhem and a mess of delays, ended up being far less effective. Passengers who had planned to go for pat-downs instead of using the full body scanners in protest, decided they would rather not receive the enhanced inspection by a TSA officer.
LaGuardia reported lines going fast at Delta’s security checkpoint and it seemed that full body scanners were actually speeding up the process.
