There are crazy hotel experiences and then there are CRAZY hotel experiences.

Case in point—Polar Park’s Wolf Lodge in Norway. It opened late last year and is already getting a ton of attention. Why? Because it’s a hotel in a wolf preserve that’s why! Guests can get up close and personal with the lupine residents (who were bred in captivity and are accustomed to humans) and can actually be licked on the face by one of the wolves.

Reading about the Wolf Lodge got us thinking about other insane, yet really awesome hotel experiences. Here are seven of the best.

1.) Icehotel, Sweden

There’s more than one hotel made of ice in the world, but Sweden’s Icehotel was the first in 1989. Every year since, it’s been rebuilt with the wall, floors, and ceilings, all carved by artists out of the natural ice and snow harvested from a wild river, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.

2.) The Marmara Antalya, Turkey

You won’t miss a single fantastic view of the world-famous Falez cliffs in Turkey when you stay at the the Marmara Antalya. That’s because it’s the world’s first (and only that we know of) rotating luxury hotel! (Whee…)

3.) Palacio de Sal, Bolivia

There’s a major twist to staying at the Bolivia’s Palacio de Sal—pretty much everything is made of salt. The floor, walls, ceiling, and even parts of the furniture are built from salt blocks. It makes more sense when you realize that the hotel sits on the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat.

4.) Giraffe Manor, Kenya

The picturesque hotel known as Giraffe Manor in a suburb of Nairobi, is known for one thing and it’s in the name—giraffes. A herd of the animals live on the estate and often come right up to, and into, your window, sticking their heads in for possible treats.

5.) Montana Magica Lodge, Chile

Like something out of a fairytale, Montana Magica Lodge, Chile, is built in the shape of a volcano and sits in the middle of a 300,000 acre private nature preserve in the Chilean rainforest. Oh, and along with 13 rooms and a bar, there’s also a working waterfall running down the side.

6.) Jules Undersea Lodge, Key Largo, FL

If there’s one place that’s perfect to learn how to scuba diva, it’s probably the Key Largo Jules Undersea Lodge in Florida, which is completely submerged underwater, and allows residents to stay from 3 to 24 hours!

7.) Attrap Reves, France

If you’ve ever wanted to sleep outside under the stars, without losing the comfort and luxury of a hotel, then Attrap Reves (aka Bubble Hotel) in France, is the place for you. The rooms are actually bubbles made from recycled clear material that sit secluded in the countryside, offering unique but comfortable views, with guaranteed privacy.
