Budget carrier Spirit Airlines recently announced plans to push further into the international market, offering two destinations south of the border this summer.
The first new route, set to launch June 3, will connect passengers in Spirit’s Fort Lauderdale hub to Toluca International Airport near Mexico City.
In a press release, Spirit said Toluca airport, which is located 25 miles from central Mexico City, “provides customers easy access and serves as a convenient alternate to Mexico City International Airport.”
The Fort Lauderdale-Mexico City flights will run every Tuesday and Friday. Starting June 13, Spirit customers will also be able to fly from Fort Lauderdale to San Salvador, El Salvador three times per week. Both routes are currently awaiting government approval.
