“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” the highly-criticized Broadway musical has shaken off its more-than-rough start to close out 2011 on a high note.
According to a report in Business Week, “Spider-Man” shattered a Broadway record by raking in over $2.9 million in ticket sales for the final week of the year.
That one-week total represents the most ever for Broadway. The previous record for single-week sales was $2.2 million, set by “Wicked” back in 2010.
Many Broadway productions added extra shows over the holidays to take advantage of the swelling hoards of tourists visiting New York City. “Spider-Man,” which plays in the enormous Foxwoods Theater, benefitted most from the holiday surge.
