Although kick-off is nearly three years away, Newark Liberty International Airport is already making preparations for the influx of visitors expected during the 2014 Super Bowl.
The big game will be held at nearby New Meadowlands Stadium, making it the first outdoor cold-air Super Bowl in NFL history.
Under a new agreement with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Signature Flight Support Corp. will invest nearly $11 million for a new passenger terminal before the Super Bowl.
The company currently handles all of the private flights into Newark and will do so until at least 2024 under the new agreement.
Virgin Atlantic Airways has also pledged $3.5 million worth of improvements to a new lounge in Terminal B. The rest of the terminal is currently undergoing a $350 million renovation that will result in a new level upon completion.
