Atlanta sets the stage for romance purely by its age. One of the oldest cities in the south, it oozes southern charm and romance for those looking for the perfect spot to spend Valentine’s Day.
While it might not have the classic romantic settings of the Empire State Building in New York or cable car riding in San Francisco, Atlanta is no fool to love.
This city knows how to date, making it easy for those looking for grand gestures this Valentine’s Day. Have you tracked down cheap flights to Atlanta this Feburary?
Let this surprisingly romantic city do the rest of the work!
Catch a Show a Fox Theater: With its onion domes and minarets, Atlanta’s Fox Theater is an opulent place to catch a Broadway show, headliners, dance companies and comedians. Originally built as a Shriners’ temple in 1916, when the Shriners ran out of money to finish their Moorish Egyptian creation, movie mogul William Fox bought the property. He turned it into a place of great opulence, which proved hard to maintain during the Depression. Falling into disrepair and disuse, Fox Theater was spared from the wrecking ball in 1978. A performance here makes for a romantic date among King Tut tomb art replicas and furnishings.
Follow the winds to the Margaret Mitchel House and Museum: Inside this Tudor Revival apartment, Margaret Mitchell penned the epic novel Gone with the Wind. Fans of the great southern read can see where the author lived from 1925 to 932. While abandoned and boarded up in later years, the house was restored to look as it did when Margaret and her husband lived here. Aside from telling the complex story of the famous novelist, the museum also highlights the film version of Gone With The Wind.
Dine along the Chattahoochee River: While Atlanta has a number of restaurants along the Chattahoochee River, Canoe is one of the favorite spots for a romantic diner. Serving up big flavors but a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, the restaurant is best appreciated on date night for its large canopied patio and landscape garden surroundings. You can watch as the Chattahoochee River flows on by as dinner transpires.
Grab a drink at the Sun Dial Bar for Atlanta’s Best View: Atlanta’s Sun Dial Bar easily hosts one of the best seats in all of Atlanta. Those in search of a cocktail and good view can head on up to the 73rd floor of the fifth tallest building in Atlanta, the Westin Peachtree Plaza. After an ear popping elevator ride, you have arrived 700 feet above the city to a jaw-dropping panoramic view. The Sun Dial Bar makes for a good spot to grab a drink with your sweetheart, all while rotating on this rotating bar. Everyone has a good view here, especially when darkness falls on Atlanta and the city lights up for the evening.
