May the force be with you , New York. New York City’s Washington Square Park will play host to a giant lightsaber battle on Saturday, September 24.
The Star Wars-style battle royal is being put together by Newmindspace, the folks behind several quirky New York City events like the Union Square Pillow Fights.
This will be the sixth lightsaber battle organized by the group and the third to take place in New York City. Event planners are hoping this will be the biggest yet and expect over 1,000 participants to turn out.
The hour-long event will be free and 500 lightsabers will be available for a modest $5 fee. Folks who own their own lightsabers (hey, who are we to judge?) are encouraged to bring their own.
If the thought of hundreds of strangers wielding plastic weapons makes you just a bit nervous, rest easy. The group has posted a few guidelines to prevent injury:
“+ Swing lightly, as there will be many people swinging at once + Don’t hit people in the face. This should be pretty obvious. + Goggles are stylish and a good way to protect your eyes! + When in doubt, tap out.”
