Full body scanners and invasive pat downs have become a normal part of the traveler’s vocabulary.
The new security measures are something many of us avoid at all costs, crossing our fingers each time that we will get the non-invasive walk through the metal detector instead of a pat down or full body scan.
No one wants to be pulled over for an extra 15 minutes and miss their flight due to an extra body scan or pat down.
If you are looking to avoid these new measures, here are just a few ways to not be body scanned or severely patted down.
Show up Early: If you show up early to the airport, you run less of a chance of having to deal with the full body scanners and invasive pat downs. If you allot extra time, you can make sure you are you in the metal detector line rather than the full body scanner. If you show up late, you run the risk of being placed in a full body scanner line by a TSA agent.
Pick a line far away from the full body scanners: If you select a security line that is far away from a full body scanner, chances are, you won’t be scanned. I have watched many people be pulled out of the metal detector line for the full body scanner, simply because they are right next to it. It is that easy. Stay away and they can’t pull you out of line.
Avoid complicated dressing: If you set off the metal detectors, security officials may make you run through the full body scanner or an intrusive pat down. If you are looking to avoid both, try eliminating any sort of dressing that might make the metal detectors go off. Don’t wear jewelry or heavy belts if you are going through security. The more simple your packing and dress are, the less likely someone will pull you over for a chat about your necklace.
Don’t make eye contact: It is always best to remain a face in the crowd when it comes to airport security. If you aren’t looking to be detained and miss your flight, don’t look like you are nervous about it. If you make eye contact with TSA agents sizing you up and down, they are probably going to pull you out of the metal detector line for the full body scanner. If you don’t make eye contact, this measure can be avoided.
Start unpacking your stuff: Many of us travel with a laptop computer and other toiletries in a small plastic bag. If you are waiting in line at security and if you start unloading your items early, pulling out the toiletries and laptop computer, you already appear inconvenienced. To move to another line would be a hassle, especially with all of your items in your arms, spilling about. Look busy and intent on getting your items into those plastic bins. No one will bother you.
