Five Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Los Angeles

This blog post was updated on October 10, 2018.

Los Angeles is definitely known for its foodie scene. While not every restaurant in the city is “family friendly,” there are definitely some that welcome young diners. Here are my top five recommendations for kid-friendly restaurants in the City of Angels.

Wildflour Pizza
Located on Santa Monica’s Main Street, Wildflour Pizza is known for its excellent homemade pizza, good selection of beer, and family-friendly atmosphere. Order your food at the counter up front, walk across the sawdust floors, grab a seat at a simple wooden table, and enjoy the quality fare and casual vibe.

Canter’s
An L.A. institution, Canter’s Deli opened on Fairfax (in the Miracle Mile district) in 1931. Canter’s is famous for its thick and hearty sandwiches, comforting chicken soup, and tasty baked goods, especially the black and white cookies. Open 24 hours a day, Canter’s is as popular with families as it is with light night partiers.

Osteria Mamma
If you and the kids are in the mood for traditional Italian fare, head over to Osteria Mamma. “Mamma” makes the pasta fresh daily herself. Dishes like linguine alla carbonara and pappardelle fumé (pink sauce with oregano, onions, bacon and scamorza cheese) are sure to satisfy even the most selective young foodies. Be sure to save room for dessert— the panna cotta and tiramisu are not to be missed.

Border Grill
Established by chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Border Grill is a popular (and family-friendly) spot. Their flagship restaurant, located in Santa Monica, features delicious dishes like adobo pork chop with an apple-tamarind sauce and grilled salmon with tomato-herb salsa. Young diners are sure to love the empanadas and quesadillas. I suggest getting a variety of small plates so you can sample all of the tantalizing flavors. Save room for desserts like flan and tres leches cake.

Figtree’s Café
Located in Venice (on the boardwalk), Figtree’s is a great place to take the family for breakfast or lunch. Grab a table outside (for some fantastic people watching), and enjoy a satisfying meal made from fresh organic ingredients. I recommend the crab cakes with mango salsa and the far eastern ginger noodles.
