Five Foodie-Friendly Happy Hours in Chicago

This blog post was updated on September 5, 2018.

The Windy City is a great place to visit, especially in the late afternoon/early evening, when most happy hours get underway. Here are my top five recommendations for places to whet your whistle and get a great bite to eat.

Central Standard
169 W. Kinzie St
Chicago, IL
Stop into this popular gastropub for an innovative craft cocktail, one (more more!) of 40 beers on tap, or a glass of wine from the well-curated wine list. Grab some hearty eats made from locally sourced ingredients off the main menu, or indulge in $2 happy hour tacos from 3-7 p.m. on weeknights.

Girl and the Goat
809 W Randolph St
Chicago, IL
The incomparable Girl & the Goat opens at 4:30 every day and stays open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Known for its craft beers, diverse and delicious menu (divided into three categories: vegetable, fish, meat) and diverse wine list, Girl & the Goat is sure to please even the choosiest of foodies. Union Sushi and Barbecue Bar
230 W Erie St
Chicago, IL
Union Sushi and Barbecue Bar offers one of the best happy hour deals in Chicago. Special pricing between 5:00-6:30 includes: $1 oysters, $2 beef fillet skewers, and $4 shrimp tempura rolls. Pair those tasty eats with a craft beer or glass of sake and you’re all set.

The Gage
24 S Michigan Ave
Chicago, IL
Located near Millennium Park, the Gage is a gorgeous gastropub serving upscale comfort food, fine wines, boutique beers and whiskeys in a sophisticated vintage atmosphere. It’s a great place to bring that very discerning foodie in your life.

Barcito
151 W Erie St
Chicago, IL 60654
This Spanish-influenced Barcito offers a daily “Tapas Time” during which you can order a delicious mixed drink and get great deals on small plates (I recommend the pork belly sliders.)  Salud!
