Five Fantastic Farm-to-Table Restaurants in Minneapolis/St. Paul

This blog post was updated on October 9, 2018.

The Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) are home to a diverse, ever-evolving culinary scene. The farm-to-table movement has definitely taken hold here, resulting in a variety of delicious options for locavores.

Heartland Restaurant and Farm Direct Market (St. Paul)
Heartland has been a staple of the St. Paul foodie scene for the better part of the last decade. The prix fixe and à la carte menus are comprised of dishes representing North American Midwest regional cuisine. The adjacent farm-direct market is stocked with all of the ingredients used in the Heartland kitchen, as well as prepared foods to enjoy at home.

Wise Acre Eatery (Minneapolis)
Voted Best Farm-to-Table Restaurant in Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine’s 2013 reader poll, Wise Acre Eatery certainly lives up to the title. A laid-back vibe, earthy-yet-modern interior, and inspired combinations of fresh, local ingredients (most of them sources from the Tangletown Garden farm in Plato, MN) make Wise Acre Eatery a delightful place to enjoy brunch, happy hour or dinner.

Terra (Waconia)
Located about 45 minutes west of the Twin Cities in Waconia, Terra is worth the drive.  This contemporary American bistro’s ever-changing menu is full of culinary gems made from seasonal local ingredients. A tantalizing array of flavors, to be pared with a carefully curated wine list and a comfortably, cozy ambiance make Terra one of my favorite farm-to-fork spots.

General Store of Minnetonka Café & Bistro (Minnetonka)
Located about 25 minutes west of the Twin Cities, the General Store of Minnetonka is a large gift, clothing and housewares store that also happens to have a lovely café and bistro— think seasonal vegetables, grass-fed meat, and freshly baked (in house) goodies.

Birchwood Café
(Minneapolis)
Vote Best Farm-to-Table restaurant in Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine’s 2012 reader poll, Birchwood Café serves up fresh, seasonal fare with a down-home vibe. The breakfast, lunch and dinner menus all include items made with ingredients sourced from our friends on organic farms in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Located in the Seward neighborhood, Birchwood is the ideal place to enjoy a leisurely, delicious meal with friends.
