Disney has announced plans to construct a $400 million Avatar land in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom theme park.
Construction on the attraction, which will reportedly span several acres, is set to begin in 2013 and wrap up within three years.
The attraction will be a recreation of Pandora, the mythical planet in the James Cameron smash-hit film which grossed nearly $3 billion since 2009.
This isn’t the first time Disney will partner to create a non-Disney attraction in one of its parks. The Mickey Mouse Corporation partnered with Lucasfilm back in 1995 to open a popular Indiana Jones attraction at Disneyland.
By the time the new attraction opens, two new Avatar installments will have hit theaters. Cameron is expected to release second and third installments of the franchise in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
