Your honeymoon can be one of the most special trips you take together as a couple because it’s all about connecting and having fun. There are many ways to do this, of course. Whether you’re an oenophile (keep reading to find out what that is), a foodie, a lover of the great outdoors, or an aspiring surfer, we’ve got you covered.
Take a Vineyard Tour
If you’re a wine lover (aka oenophile) and aspiring sommelier, a wine tour with your new spouse can be a romantic way to spend your honeymoon. Travel from tasting room to tasting room and stop for bites to eat along the way (so that you can keep going!). Chef-driven restaurants flourish in wine regions, so your foodie desires are sure to be fed as well. The California wine regions – Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara are great choices. Oregon’s Tualatin Valley vineyards also offer a unique perspective on US winemaking. Mexico’s wine region, Guadalupe Valley, is home to dynamic tasting rooms and beautiful views. Of course, you could spend a week or two in Europe and taste the rich array of French, Italian, German, Portuguese, or Spanish varietals. Whichever region you choose, be sure to pick up a bottle or two to take home and drink together on your first anniversary. The great thing about developing an interest in wine is that you can follow it around the world – with your love by your side, of course.
Hike to Your Heart’s Content
Nature lovers can celebrate their unity by doing what they love together – exploring the great outdoors. What could be more romantic than hiking and enjoying stunning vistas with the love of your life? There are plenty of gorgeous hiking regions in the US – the Redwood Forest, Yosemite, Glacier National Park, the Grand Canyon, and Acadia National Park spring to mind. You could also head to South America and check out Chile‘s Patagonia region or Peru’s Santa Cruz Trek, Machu Picchu Trek, or Colca Canyon. Be sure to take lots of photos so you can relive the memories on your anniversaries to come.
Hit the Beach
Whether you prefer to lounge, swim, or surf, a beach honeymoon can be a great way to relax with your spouse. Of course, Hawaii’s beaches offer unparalleled beauty and variety. The Caribbean was pretty much made for honeymooners, with top-notch resorts and beach vacation spots in Jamaica, Anguilla, Turks & Caicos, St. Martin and beyond. If you’re specifically looking for surf, California’s coast is the place to be. Of course, you could also head to France and surf Biarritz (or watch the pros do it at the annual surf competition. Tofino, British Colombia is a lesser known surf destination with a great vibe. Globetrotting surf couples will also love Taghazout, Morocco. Wherever you end up going, be sure to bring home a seashell or jar full of sand to remember your experience.
