Since September 2012, The Global Poverty Project has hosted a free event in New York City’s Central Park to raise awareness and to mobilize a global movement around the vision to end poverty within a generation. Big goals require big names. The likes of Bono, the Foo Fighters, Band of Horses, Alicia Keys, Jay Z and other artists have graced the stage over the festival’s four year tenure. And just today, The Global Poverty Project has announced this year’s lineup (trust us, it’s pretty amazing)!
Getting excited? So are we. But tickets aren’t just being given out on a first come, first served basis — no, if you want to see Kendrick Lamar live, you’ve got to do something about it. So what do you have to do? Glad you asked.
Who’s performing this year?
Oh, we don’t know if you’ve heard of them… Just some small-time acts like Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer, Metallica, Eddie Vedder, Usher, Ellie Goulding and MUCH MORE (if you can imagine).
HOLY HANNAH! I’ve got to go to this! How do I get tickets?
You have to take action. This year’s theme is education and The Global Poverty Project is counting on earth-loving people like us to spread the word.
First, sign up on the site to be a Global Citizen. Then you can start tweeting at UN members, signing petitions, sending emails to universities, uploading Instagram videos, calling your local leaders, and asking your friends to join the movement. Each action earns you from 1 to 5 points. Once you earn 30 points, your name is entered into the lottery of 48,000 free tickets that they’re giving away.
Okay, I’m signed up and already tweeting, calling, and emailing. What now?
Keep up the good work! There will be six drawings: July 26, August 9, August 23, September 6, September 13 and September 19 — just five days before the festival!
Speaking of which, when is the festival?
Oops! Good catch. The festival is on September 24 in New York City’s Central Park.

Is there any way I can buy tickets?
VIP tickets will be available for sale on TicketMaster as the concert date gets closer – so keep an eye out for that option! The exact price and date of availability are currently unknown.
But if I don’t win tickets, I can still catch the concert, right?
Of course! MSNBC, YouTube and iHeartRadio will be live-streaming the event so that everyone can tune in to the musical extravaganza.
So how much impact has the festival had so far?
Over the course of this five-year initiative, the Global Poverty Project has seen nearly 6.5 million actions taken and an estimated 656 million lives that have been made better by the simple tweets, calls, and emails that people all over the world are making.
Wait, that’s super cool.
Yes it is! So everyone, tally up your points, apply for tickets and know that even small actions, when taken by so many people, can add up to one huge global movement set to end poverty by 2030 through the connective power of music.
Will you #showup this year? Take action now for tickets.
