Before Major League Baseball’s Spring Training takes over Phoenix in the spring, the area celebrates the lack of crowds and cooler temperatures through January and February. For those going during the coldest months of the year, you’ll flee the cold, yet beat the heat in Phoenix. And don’t worry, there’s lots to do here. Read on for some fun-filled area events and activities from Arabian horse shows to color runs!

Hike at Estrella Park in Phoenix

Hiking in Phoenix

Hikes in the Phoenix area are not always the most pleasant during the day because of soaring temperatures. Just under 40 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Estrella Mountain Regional Park is where the hiking fun happens. There’s a wide variety of events scheduled such as Desert Crafts, Archery 101, Fitness Hikes and so on. Stretching over 19,000 acres of desert and mountains, this park embraces the opportunity to host fun-filled events each month.  Maricopa County Parks offers information on scheduled events and camping reservations.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at the Glendale Chocolate Affaire

Chocolate, Phoenix

Chocoholics unite in historic downtown Glendale for the Glendale Chocolate Affaire. This free event brings in roughly 40 chocolate purveyors from Arizona and elsewhere around the country.

Celebrating chocolate in every form, visitors can expect to sample it all; from organic dark chocolate to sweet potato fries drizzled in a chocolate glaze. (mmm!)

Sponsored by Arizona’s own Cerreta Candy Company, this year’s Glendale Chocolate Affaire will take place February 9, 2018, through February 11, 2018.
